Description

Substance use is a significant public health issue with widespread individual and societal impacts. This course examines the issues that comprise a coherent, impactful public health-focused substance use policy, by considering the factors that contribute to substance use and its consequences. It covers evidence-based strategies for prevention and harm reduction, considering biological, psychological, and social influences, particularly among high-risk populations. Students will analyze the effects, prevalence, and health outcomes of major licit and illicit substances, as well as interventions covering harm reduction, treatment, and prevention strategies. Using this knowledge, they will critically assess national and international drug policies.
