Interventions for Global Health: Concepts and Methods
ID 226

Course Information

Description

This course is intended as an introduction to global health research. Its particular focus will be on the science of change – how we can use science to support the creation and evaluation intervention and policies aimed at boosting population health. The course will consist of both a domain and methods theme. The domain theme will focus on major cases in global health research, covering both the micro level (interventions) and the macro level (policies). Case studies from both resource-poor and research-rich communities will illustrate interventions and policies to address major disease needs and major drivers of population health. The methods theme of the course will follow a methods framework designed for this course. It will feature key methods that are useful for (i) establishing the need for population health interventions; (ii) designing novel interventions; and (iii) evaluating intervention impact, performance, economic value, and equity. The methods training will focus on conceptual understanding, as well as potential applications, strengths and weakness of methods that are useful for creating and evaluating population health interventions. The course will thus focus both on understanding future developments in population health and the contributions that real-life intervention research can make to addressing major health needs in communities worldwide. It will provide students with a comprehensive conceptual and applied toolkit to envision and design studies to create and design a population health intervention.
