Description

This course will consist of a close reading of the Book of Isaiah. The course is designed to help students increase their speed and fluency with Classical Hebrew poetry, in preparation for graduate level seminars. The primary focus will therefore be to establish a solid foundation of biblical Hebrew vocabulary, and to solidify students' grasp of the phonology, morphology, and syntax of biblical poetry.  Depending on individual student interests, the course will also provide opportunities to explore the literary and theological dimensions of the Book of Isaiah, textual criticism, and historical linguistics.

 

Prerequisites: Classical Hebrew AA/AB sequence, CH 120a, and 120b, or equivalent.
